We met Brennon at a Starbucks on South Broad Street in Philly. He was with his wife Tasha. He didn’t know us and we only knew of him by the work he was doing cutting the hair of the homeless on a median strip a few blocks away. We told him we loved his t-shirts we’d seen on social media and the graphic on the front, a heart that surrounds the words “Spread Love”. It was striking in its simplicity and so cool in its design. Both made us want to wear the shirt. It was straight to the point yet powerful.
We asked him about how he sold his t-shirts as we wanted to purchase some. He said he didn’t sell them much anymore because whatever time and money he had went right back into his work. We suggested perhaps we could help and an idea took root. Maybe we could tell his story first, sell his shirts and raise some money for him to continue to do what he does best, be a barber to those in most need.
Rather than meet us with skepticism, Brennon flashed his bright, contagious smile and said, “Let’s do something dope!”
